A HUNDRED BREATHS

PROJECT | BOOK COVER DESIGN
CLIENT | AUTHOR JEAN N. GRANT
CLIENT LOCATION | United States
The Client required book cover art for her novel A Hundred Breaths, as well as ebook and audiobook layouts, a scene break graphic, and title page art.

CONCEPT

The genre is historical/paranormal romance, and the client desired a more unique approach to cover art than is typical for the genre.  A Hundred Breaths is the first of a series of three titles.  The goal is to create a cover that is visually unique and can stand alone, as well as form the basis of the set of three visually cohesive covers. The color palette is a critical factor in each of the three books in this series.  Each cover hosts a different palette for a slightly varying mood. Using a palette of golds, mauves, purples, and browns to help create a warm and romantic feel, the main elements of the story (Viking ship, thistle, isles of Scotland) were carefully woven into a complex composition that subtly entices the viewer.

TITLE PAGE

Title page artwork needed to be created as a grayscale graphic.  This involved isolating the title itself and creating a thistle graphic to tie into the full cover art, where the thistle features prominently.  The use of the thistle adds both artistic detail and a sense of continuity across the design.
