Every artist finds inspiration in unusual places... taking a walk one day, I found a piece of pumpkin gourd on the ground. The unique shape intrigued me, and I found myself imagining all the things the gourd could be. A spaceship? A cocoon for a fairy? I took several photos of the gourd from various angles, and filed them away. I knew I needed to capture them in my work. I created three distinct black and white pieces, done with graphite, charcoal, ink and touches of acrylic. Each uses the same photo of a broken gourd and imagines it in three different worlds. So many things in life are simply open to interpretation. It is our choice how we view the events in our lives, and the world around us.
